Method of Approach

At Kaleidoscope Kids Preschool, our approach for developing and stimulating all areas of a child’s needs is by providing a safe and secure environment where children have the             confidence to engage in activities thus creating their own learning experience.

The theory underlying the children’s program is developmental in nature.   Kaleidoscope Kids Preschool takes an eclectic approach based on the theories of Erikson, Skinner, Thorndike and Gessell, with particular emphasis on Piaget’s theory of cognitive development.

We feel that the role of the environment is critical...that learning occurs through experimental interaction with the environment...discovery, observation and questioning. The children are served through planned experiences based on Piagetian stages of development. They are expected to move at their own rate through active, initiated, self-directed play.

As Jean Piaget stated “Every time one teaches a child, one prevents him from inventing or discovering.”  It is with this theory in mind, we strive to allow children to explore, experiment and discover at their own pace.

Curriculum content considers age-appropriateness in all developmental areas with emphasis on promoting friendships and increasing feelings of self-worth.

All children have strengths as well as needs. Our common goal is the development of skills, attitudes, and behaviour that will allow children to deal effectively with the world in which they live.

We consider parent knowledge to be a great asset. It is important that teachers and parents work together to achieve common goals.

We believe in providing equal opportunity for ALL children.

Our program offers a balance between ‘free time’ when children make choices and ‘circle times’, when all children take part.  Each portion of the day has value and purpose.
